Dr
(Ms) Jaya Shreedhar is a physician,
an award winning journalist and author based in Chennai. She
is an expert
and consultant on HIV/AIDS
to various governmental and non-governmental
agencies.
Dr
Jaya Shreedhar has worked extensively in film, television,
radio and print media. She has covered the AIDS pandemic for
the last eighteen years and has contributed to national and
international newspapers. She has also trained journalists
from India and other developing countries in HIV/AIDS reporting.
A former Special Correspondent with Frontline, she has served
as an editor/writer and health communications consultant to
Internews, UNAIDS, UNDP, WHO, UNICEF, the Tamil Nadu, Kerala
and Andhra Pradesh governments and the TB Research Centre
in Chennai among others.
Dr
Jaya Shreedhar has conducted research on the media response
to HIV/AIDS in India and the Mekong region and is involved
in tailor designing the Internews Local Voices Program for
India which is aimed at involving journalists, media managers
and owners, talk show hosts, DJs and NGOs on improving the
frequency and quality of coverage on HIV/AIDS to help create
a more open environment that mitigates stigma and encourages
prevention, testing, counselling and treatment.
